About us:
HighCountryJobs.com is an idea that started in the fall of 1998. The founder of the company, Jeff Krage, moved to Vail, CO in the fall of 1994. After college, he knew that he wanted to move to the mountains where he had vacationed since childhood. Getting in the car and driving there was the easy part; finding housing and a job proved to be more difficult. Jeff got a job with a transportation company, but it took two weeks to secure housing. Fortunately, he was able to crash on his cousin's couch! The hardest part was finding a seasonal rental. The place he found was a nice 5 bedroom townhome for $3,000 a month and required first and last months' rent plus a security deposit to move in. Desperate, he took out an ad in the local newspaper to find roommates. The company he worked for grew rapidly, and Jeff settled into his current year-round job as the manager of recruiting and employee housing - a crucial position for a company needing to hire 100 seasonal employees in a ski resort town. As the recruiting manager, he learned some things about what things people looked for in a job, their motivations and hesitations about moving to the mountains, etc. He also discovered, sometimes painfully, how difficult it can be to hire and retain quality employees in a resort town. The idea for a mountain job board just seemed to make sense. Why not provide a resource for people contemplating a move to the mountains, and enable employers to seek qualified job applicants - all on the Internet?
